November is a wonderful time at EBI. We are fresh from celebrating our favorite office holiday, prepping exciting plans for the new year, and cheering on our internal teams for things we do better than anyone else.
This year, though, November holds special meaning for the EBI team. We recently celebrated our 25th anniversary and enjoyed a week of events, food, and fun with our employees, partners, and family and friends. We invite you to look back at the EBI 25th Anniversary Week celebrations!
From its humble beginnings in 1994, Employment Background Investigations Inc. (EBI), has grown into an internationally-accredited enterprise background screening firm, under the creative vision and direction of CEO Rick Kurland. Rick found his calling after watching a news story regarding elder abuse, and he vowed to find a platform to protect vulnerable populations.
Rick discovered comprehensive background checks were the best way to vet job applicants and protect a business’ employees and clients. This remains true today. Whether you are concerned about criminal history, illicit drug use, or education credentials, a pre-employment screening report from EBI can dramatically reduce your risk and keep your workplace safe.
Celebrating our anniversary caps another wildly successful year of innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and growth that continues to demonstrate how EBI delivers a WOW Experience year after year. Our award-winning year actually began in December 2018 with Rick earning the title of HR Superstar by HRO Today, and continued with EBI appearing on HRO Today’s Baker’s Dozen a record-setting 12 times – more than any other Consumer Reporting Agency!
Here are additional highlights:
We are also blown away by the overwhelming positive feedback EBI clients and viewers have shown our award-winning flagship program, the Screening News Network presented by Jennifer Gladstone. This program is so popular, we are now delivering these screening industry and compliance news updates three days a week! We’ve also added a Weekly Wrap blog post that expands on our broadcasts and offers tips, best practices, and industry insider information to help you better implement and maintain screening practices at your business. You can subscribe to SNN to have it delivered straight to your inbox or find our broadcasts on any of our social media channels.
November is also National Philanthropy Month, a perfect time to express our gratitude to our clients and partners. Without their support and loyalty, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
In this spirit of thanks, we are proud to announce EBI has launched the Just One World Foundation. With the assistance of his wife Marti, Rick decided to use EBI’s 25th Anniversary as an opportunity to launch the Just One World Foundation. In its inaugural year, Just One World will focus on raising funds and awareness for three charities focused on children’s health: Hope for Henry, LifeBridge Health’s Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Click here to read about Rick’s connection to these organizations. All three are passionately dedicated to helping children battle illness of all kinds.
“The philanthropic support of our clients and their industry partners will play a central role in saving more kids in a real way,” said Rick. “This campaign will empower Sinai, Hope for Henry, and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to continue to pursue transformative research, while delivering hope to children everywhere.”
Additionally, during our 25-year anniversary celebration, we reminisced about EBI’s incredible journey and some of the people who have contributed to our story. “Every member of the EBI team has brought their own unique perspectives and “special sauce” to make EBI a melting pot of success,” said Rick.
Sadly, two team members have lost their lives to cancer; Heather G. in 2011 and Kathy B. in 2019. However, their spirit lives on forever at EBI.
Rick and Marti welcomed Heather and Kathy’s families to the EBI headquarters and the EBI team had the honor and privilege of renaming our Learning Center after the two women. “Happy University” is dedicated to the incredible power of our team, and to those members who are gone, but whose smiles and dedication will never be forgotten. We are grateful to Heather and Kathy’s family members for sharing in this dedication with us.
We are thrilled for what 2020 will bring to our EBI team and greater family of clients and partners. We thank you for an incredible 25 years of success and wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
