Dishonest employees cost US retailers billions of dollars every year, and that number continues to rise. Employers need to be well aware of this and take proactive steps in order to protect their bottom-line.
This alarming statistic is based on a survey conducted by Jack L. Hayes International, a leading loss prevention and inventory shrinkage control consulting firm. This is the 25th year for the annual retail theft survey. It included 23 major retailers employing more than 2.8 million employees with $596 billion in total sales. Of the retailers surveyed, over 1.1 million shoplifters and dishonest employees were apprehended and $189 million in total losses were recovered.
