Are You Impaired by Marijuana? There’s an App for that!

Legalized Impairment AppOne of the biggest complaints we are hearing from employers in states where marijuana is now legal is that there really is no way to measure if someone is under the influence.  If you think an employee has been drinking you can do a BAT test and find out exactly how much alcohol is in their system. We are still waiting on something similar to come along when it comes to pot.

But what if an app could tell if you are impaired? Enter “Canary”… an app just released for iPhones and iPads… that claims it uses decades of research and experience, specialized mental and physical performance tests, and sophisticated analysis to measure a user’s impairment due to alcohol, medication, fatigue and even marijuana.

The app is being endorsed by the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML).  Representatives say the app can “quickly and accurately measure one’s personal performance to determine whether or not a subject may be under the influence of marijuana.”  In a press release, Allen St. Pierre, Executive Director of NORML said, "Canary is the first app to provide consumers with the scientific information they need to accurately evaluate their personal performance, privately, anytime, and anywhere."

So what do you think? Is this science or a game? Could this app help employers address legalized impairment in the workplace
