A Handy Roundup of the Best PDC Opportunities Coming Your Way This Month

September is Self-Improvement Month. It’s also Back-to-School time for students.

What better way to pay tribute to both events than by participating in some qualifying Human Resources credit-earning activities?

But it’s 2020. Ugh. Let’s face it – you’ve probably been busy helping your employer with a TON of other priorities this year. So, we’ve done our homework and curated this handy roundup of the best Professional Development Credit opportunities coming your way this month. Including an AMAZING chance to earn all 60 credits at once.

Happy learning!

An HR Gift

You already know most HR professionals need at least 60 Professional Development Credits (PDCs) to recertify every three years. It doesn’t matter if your accreditation is through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) or the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), you need to show your commitment to your profession by remaining in compliance with this standard.

Now, let’s get to the good stuff.

This year, SHRM is recognizing the tremendous amount of work you’ve put into helping your organizations navigate COVID-19, and it is rewarding you – BIG TIME!

If you are a SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credential holder, you can earn all 60 PDCs for your work in this area by filling out this one form. Follow the instructions outlined in the form to redeem your credits.

Here are some examples of qualifying COVID-19-related work from SHRM that you can include on that form:

  • CARES Act and its impact on unemployment
  • Communicable disease exposure issue and quarantine pay
  • Essential business and essential workers (definitions, hazard pay, protecting workers in the public)
  • FFCRA law implementation and exceptions
  • Furloughs, pay reductions, layoffs, WARN
  • Hiring in a COVID-19 and virtual world (rescinding and delaying offers, i-9 issues)
  • PPP loans and loan forgiveness
  • Return to work issues (recall, health screening/testing, social distancing, fear of returning to work)
  • Transitioning to a virtual workforce (telework, addressing employees who are unable to telework, keeping employees engaged)

Where Credit is Due

But if juggling COVID-19 responsibilities isn’t the only thing you’ve been tackling this year (let’s be honest, it isn’t!), maybe it’s time to focus on your own professional development needs. So, in honor of Self-Improvement Month, here’s a curated list of some interesting, relevant, and dare we say, fun, PDC opportunities where you can learn from the best. The first portion is in chronological order; the second features on-demand courses you can take anytime.

Remember – most webinars these days will send you the recording afterward, so if you can’t make the actual date, sign up anyway to watch it later at your convenience.
