EBI has been a proud member of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) since its inception in 2003. Our team has had the pleasure of watching NAPBS grow and evolve over the years, and many members of our leadership team have the opportunity to hold prominent roles in the association. So, it was a great moment at the recent national convention when NAPBS announced its plan to transform into the Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA). The effort took a lot of hard work by a lot of people, but members overwhelmingly approved the decision.
Bob Capwell, EBI’s Chief Knowledge Officer, is a past chairman of the NAPBS board and has continued to be incredibly involved with the organization. In fact, he was recently named Volunteer of the Month. When NAPBS noticed an increase in international interest, leaders realized they had an opportunity to become a truly global organization. They called on Bob to co-chair this massive effort.
Bob, along with a global taskforce of US and international members, created a new set of bylaws, leadership structure, and membership requirements to form the PBSA. The globalization of hiring and the challenges that come with it, like data privacy and gig economy contractors, have fundamentally changed the background screening industry. The new PBSA will help background screeners like EBI keep on top of ever-changing compliance issues including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In turn, EBI passes on this knowledge and expertise to our clients through award-winning client care benefits like our Trusted Advisor Program and Screening News Network.
“The governance, re-structuring and rebranding efforts of PBSA have now transformed the association into a true global organization representing all professional background screening firms around the world under one unified leadership structure,” says Bob.
EBI is extremely proud our Chief Knowledge Officer played such a pivotal role in this effort to help support background screeners worldwide. We can’t wait to see all the good things to come from the PBSA! Thank you for your hard work and dedication, Mr. Capwell!
