NFL Scouts Looking for Dirt More Than Skill

nfl-scouts-background-checksSporttechie.com published an article that will be really interesting to all of you football fans out there.  Apparently NFL scouts are no longer focusing on just the player’s moves on the field.  Instead, they are more like detectives delving into prospects’ personal lives. One of the scouts interviewed for the piece says they now spend about 70-percent of their time doing background checks.

Players no longer have to wait and hope to be noticed by recruiters. They use social media to share every detail of their games and on-the-field accomplishments. But those same avenues like Twitter, SnapChat and Facebook can also bring a promising player down. Are they binge drinking? Mistreating a girlfriend? Getting into fights? It can all come out; you just have to know where to look.

Scouts are now paid to carefully follow prospects online, and they will do all kinds of things to make sure they don’t miss a warning sign. According to Sporttechie.com, these evaluators will send fake friend requests or even attempt to “catfish” players to see if they are likely to make poor decisions.
