EBI is proud to be part of the Safety 1st Volunteer Screening Program.
EBI has been chosen to take part in this program because of our continuing efforts and expertise in assisting volunteers for non-profit organizations in establishing suitability screening criteria consistent with their mission and the nature of the volunteers' roles in working with children or other vulnerable populations.
A Safety 1st Volunteer Screening provides a compiled, comprehensive report that includes information from EBI's national criminal record database search called NCRD-ci. It includes criminal data from criminal courts, state criminal record repositories, probation, prison parole and release files, sex offender registries and other government agencies, as well as additional proprietary criminal history data. A Safety 1st Volunteer Screening also provides search results on the volunteer's previous residence addresses, whether a Social Security number has been issued, maiden and/or married names associated with the SSN, and whether the volunteer's SSN is currently being used by other individuals.
This innovative new program allows EBI the ability to provide increased access to budget-friendly, high-quality background checks of volunteers for children and other vulnerable populations.
It is critical to understand that searches performed for volunteers utilizing the EBI's database search is a research tool only, and under no circumstances does EBI recommend this search as a substitute for a hands-on search at the county level. In addition not all states have a database that is available to employers. Databases in each state are compiled from a number of various sources. For a complete listing of the database sources by state, click here.
There are a number of reasons that database information may not be accurate or complete. Because of the nature of databases, the appearance of a person's name on a database is not an indication the person is criminal any more then the absence of a name shows they are not a criminal. Any positive match MUST be verified by reviewing the actual court records. Any lack of a match is not the same as a person being "cleared." However, a database is a valuable tool in helping employers cover a wider area and know where to search for more information.
