Site Inspections
The First Line of Defense Against Identity Theft and Fraud
A lot of clients may have the wrong idea about site inspections, also known as physical inspections. They may think it's just a scam to pull more revenue out of the client, or a means of learning industry secrets that the client may want to protect.
But this can't be farther from the truth. Any Credit Reporting Agency worth its salt must start with a site inspection before they perform any kind of credit check or report any information. This isn't about scamming anyone, it's about preventing identity theft and fraud.
Here's the problem – any Credit Reporting Agency (CRA) who doesn't perform their site inspection could be setting themselves up to be preyed upon by a criminal. It's happened before: a CRA doesn't follow up with a site inspection, and hands over valuable credit check information to their new "client." But, that client is actually a false business front using CRAs and consumer information databases steal the sensitive and valuable data that necessarily comes out of a credit check or credit report.
Now, that CRA, who didn't conduct a site search to verify the existence and security of that client, has aided in both identity theft and fraud.
Of course, this is why credit bureaus made physical inspections a mandate for all CRAs back in July of 2003, but that doesn't mean that everyone is in compliance with that rule.
But EBI has been in full compliance with this mandate since it was issued. As a CRA, we feel that individual privacy is just as important as great service and client satisfaction. There are many other companies who don't have these kinds of scruples, but at EBI, that's just not our style.
