Employee Drug Testing Saves Money:

How pre-screening employees saves money in the long term.

Like many protective, governing agencies, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has recently decided to add more employee drug testing to its list of safety requirements.

Unfortunately, several national aircraft-repair companies are upset about this, complaining that adding more drug tests to pre-employment screening, including random drug testing, will cost too much and include tedious paperwork.

At EBI, we know that this couldn’t be farther from the truth.

In fact, employee drug testing saves money, a lot of money, and especially when instituted in pre-employment screening, at random intervals, and in the aftermath of a workplace accident.

This is because drug abuse in the workplace has become such a problem. Statistically, 40% of individuals classified as drug addicts or alcoholics are still getting hired by perfectly respectable companies. This means that there are 26 million people in the workplace who are legally impaired every day.

And workers who abuse drugs in the workplace are more likely to cause workplace accidents, and to accrue costs in absenteeism, healthcare costs, and workers compensation.

Employee drug testing prevents these people from getting into your workplace, contributes to workplace safety, and minimizes turnover. When you consider that the average cost for hiring an employee runs about $4,000 per person, it becomes clear why it’s useful to hire the right person the first time. And none of this takes into account the vast amount of time and energy required to deal with an employee who uses drugs in the workplace, especially when accidents happen and claims are filed.

In the long run, drug testing will save any employer a lot of money, time, and stress.

This is why EBI provides pre-employment drug testing, random drug testing, and post-accident drug testing for our clients. We know that these kinds of precautions are truly priceless in today’s workplace environment.
