Trumps Employee Background Check in New Global Markets

The "Secrets to Outsourcing," as they are revealed at CSO Online, reflect how growing global markets need pre employment background screening to protect both clients and the company itself. A cheap employee background check simply doesn't provide the many services that new economic markets will need to protect their interests both at home, and abroad.

In an interview with Associate Online Editor Diann Daniel, Burton Group Analyst Diana Kelley offers tips on determining risk levels, monitoring your vendor, and negotiating service level agreements.

And in terms of security, Kelley makes clear, "one of the most important lessons is that you can't transfer your reputational risk. If something goes wrong, it's going to come back to you, not necessarily to your outsourcer."

This can be dangerous in a world where data is as tempting to employees as cold, hard cash. You're not just outsourcing a call center; it's the data and the controls around that data that youre also outsourcing. And, with so many companies outsourcing their work, how can you be sure that you've got security locked in?

Well, you absolutely can't trust a cheap employee background check. Cheap online background checks tend to speed through shoddy public records, and do little to keep dangerous hires out of the workplace here, let alone abroad.

This is where quality pre employment background screening really shines, particularly in terms of international background checks and Homeland Security compliance issues.

International background checks can require different training and different knowledge. A real background screening agency will have the team and the partnerships to ensure that employers are covered everywhere. Services should include criminal background checks, employment, education and credential verifications, credit reports and drug testing.

And in terms of Homeland Security, there's OFAC compliance to deal with. The Office of Foreign Assets Control ("OFAC") of the U.S. Dept. of the Treasury enforces economic and trade sanctions based on foreign policy and national security goals. OFAC blocks interaction with terrorists, international narcotics traffickers and proscribed weapons violators, among others, as well as denying dealings with certain foreign entities.

Employee background checks don't deal with OFAC compliance, while good pre employment background screening investigates more than 14 separate U.S. and foreign sanctions and watch lists, making background screening the easiest thing to manage in a growing global economy.
