Drug Testing in the Workplace:
Keeping employment costs under control.
Recent poll results of American business owners have come back proving that employee drug testing, along with other benefits of employment background screening, have been effective in driving down cost for small companies, so much so that 51% have increased their use of such programs over the last 5 years.
In fact, drug testing has been found to help American businesses to find qualified, skilled workers and keep employment costs under control, issues seen as the top two concerns in the American workplace over the next few years.
And thanks to drug testing in the workplace, the use of methamphetamine on the job, previously seen as epidemic, saw its first decline in some areas just this year.
However, even as meth use goes down, the use of other drugs like marijuana and cocaine has not been effected, proving that drug use in the workplace generally is still a problem. For the most part this is the case in smaller businesses that don’t rely on employee drug testing, or employment background screening in general.
Drug use on the job leads to absenteeism, higher health insurance premiums, an increase in accidents on the job, and an increase in worker’s compensation claims.
The message here is clear: small businesses that don’t implement drug testing in the workplace will end up paying for it later, creating costs that can be detrimental to the company as a whole. Those who do rely on employment background screening and the services that come with it – including drug testing – save money in the long run.
This is why EBI relies on a national drug screening network that includes over 15,000 Patient Service Centers (PSC's) and third party collection sites worldwide. This provides our clients reliable drug testing, combined with the kind of convenience and rapid turnaround time that makes it easy to hire the right employee the first time.
Call EBI to discuss a background screening program to suit your company's needs. Our comprehensive screening programs can help ensure you're hiring qualified candidates and avoiding less desirable ones.
