Cheap Background Checks Causing Problems:

Poor quality equals poor employees.

As state and federal regulations for employee background screening get tougher and tougher, more and more complications arise out of a dependency on cheap background checks.

In Florida, a man almost lost his job when a faulty background investigation revealed 3 DUI arrests. However, the information was proven false when it became clear that not only did this happen in an entirely different state, but that the perpetrator was an entirely different race; the applicant was African American, and the DUI arrests indicated a white male.

Poor criminal background checks failed to uncover the history of an Indiana middle school teacher, previously convicted of cocaine distribution, and with a history of sexual abuse allegations. The school had purchased a cheap background check for $40.

And in Carolina, a man lost his job due to poor quality employee background screening. He was never convicted of assault and check fraud, but the burden of proof falls upon the employee when employee screening reveals something negative. In the time it took him to prove the allegations false, someone else was hired for the job.

What all of these cases have in common is the purchase of, and reliance upon cheap background checks. Time and again, we at EBI have stressed that in-depth employee background screening is the only way to uncover the true history of any job applicant.
