Employee Drug Testing Suggested by Lawn & Landscape

At Lawn & Landscape contributor Amy Phillips is right when she suggests that the decision to hire an employee is "one of the most difficult, yet integral parts of running a successful business." And as she makes clear, background screening procedures, including employee drug testing, can make or break businesses of all sizes.
As the article says, an employer can very easily find him or herself in "hot water" for failing to conduct background screening, particularly when negligent hiring lawsuits can prove damage or injury to a third party.
Several cases are cited in which employers were found at fault for failing to pursue adequate background screening before hiring an individual. However, while the millions lost in negligent hiring is a stark reminder of what can happen when the wrong person works for you, other issues like lowered employee morale and bad PR can be equally destructive.
Some of the best advice from Phillips comes in terms of employee drug testing. This factor of employee screening becomes even more important when employees will have access to the homes and personal information of clients, such as delivery persons, cable installers, landscape workers, etc.
